 Donald Trump, the former president of the United States of America was the spotlight of a contentious trial that began in New York on Monday morning. The trial could reveal how much money the real estate tycoon turned politician is actually worth.

Lawyers will attempt to establish how much Trump and his companies will be fined for the fraud in a civil trial that is likely to take three months. He performed fraud for years while expanding his real estate empire, a New York judge ruled last week.

Letitia James, the attorney general of New York, is requesting $250 million in compensation. Trump, his children, and previous business partners are all potential witnesses.

Trump, who has opted out of participating in recent cases, surprisingly declared that he will attend the first day of the trial prior to appearing in court. Even though the former president hasn’t testified in the case yet, Trump and his associates spent the day attacking James, the case’s judge, and other authorities, particularly as he runs for re-election.
