The Citizens Coalition for Change has dismissed letters that circulated on social media today purporting to recall 15 Members of Parliament and 17 Councillors which appeared to have originated from the party as fake, and an attempt by their rivals, Zanu PF to cause division within the opposition party.
In a statement, CCC National Deputy Spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba said the person behind the letters, Sengezo Tshabangu is not an affiliate of their political party. He said the party is taking action against Tshabangu and others who may be involved.
“The purported author of the two letters, Sengezo Tshabangu is not and has never been a member or the official of the CCC party since it’s inception.
“He is renowned for being the proxy of fielding fake CCC double candidates in Bulawayo and Matebeleland North. The CCC Movement is taking action against this imposter and all his contacts.” Said Siziba.
He said ZANU PF was behind the circular to create division and chaos in the opposition party, and encouraged CCC members to continue fulfilling their duties as elected officials.
“This deplorable behaviour by ZANU PF is a response to their defeat in 2023 and rejection by Zimbabwe and a pathetic attempt to respond to the exercise of our freedom of association in not attending the official opening of the parliament.
“Meanwhile, our deployees in local authorities and parliament should continue to discharge their responsibilities as mandated by the electorate in the just ended elections,” he said.
However, critics have said that CCC’s failure to create party structures is leaving them in a vulnerable position to get attacks from opponents.
