Masvingo is gearing up to host the National Youth Day celebrations tomorrow where thousands of youths from all corners of the country are expected to attend. The celebrations will be held at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre, and will run under the theme: “Positioning youth empowerment and development towards achieving Vision 2030”.
The event, which also marks the birth of Zimbabwe’s former President, Robert Mugabe, has been declared a national holiday. President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be the guest of honour at the celebrations.
This year’s event will host a lot of festivities which include performances from the country’s top artists, and a business conference where various government departments and the business community will engage with young people to share opportunities.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training , Tino Machakaire told journalists yesterday that the purpose of the National Youth Day celebrations is to bring together the government and young people.
“The day has been identified as an opportune event that the Government should invest in to celebrate with the young people, taking stock of programmes and initiatives to inculcate values that our fore-bearers displayed for national development,” he said
Last year, the main celebrations where held in Matabeleland North Province. The program rotates annually to cover all provinces.
