In an incident that has left the community of Kuwadzana 5,  in shock, two young children tragically lost their lives due to an electrical malfunction while they were asleep. The victims have been identified as Junior Makwindi (4) and Tinotenda Tineyi Maketo (6).

In a statement, ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said thorough investigations revealed that the children were electrocuted as a result of a malfunctioning refrigerator.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is deeply saddened to confirm a tragic incident that occurred on the night of February 19, 2024, in Kuwadzana 5, Harare, whereby Junior Makwindi (4) and Tinotenda Tineyi Maketo (6) lost their lives due to electrocution while sleeping in a room,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi stated.

Findings from the police investigation also indicate that the fatal electrocution occurred when the children came into contact with an upright refrigerator that had experienced an electrical fault.
