The Zimbabwe Republic Police  is conducting a crackdown on illegal transport operators (Mushikashika) and touts across the country, a development that has seen 828 motorists and 217 touts being arrested yesterday in Harare.

In a statement,  ZRP said the operation “No To Mushikashika and Touts” has seen 3,710 touts being arrested nationwide. 12, 482 motorists have also been arrested for engaging in unlawful transport activities.

The unavailability of a properly managed public transport system in the country has seen private players venturing into the sector. As a result, authorities are struggling to control these operators as they operate without complying to the law.

Most Mushikashikas are not registered, and they use undesignated sites in the Central Business District to pick up and drop passengers thereby causing chaos, disorder and traffic congestion.
