Residents in Glendale are facing a huge Water crisis, as Water wells, which are their main source of clean water have tested positive to high levels of E.Coli (Escherichia coli), a bacterium that causes cholera.

The development comes as the town is facing a cholera outbreak where 104 cases, including 1 death, have been recorded. Residents heavily rely on water from wells because running tap water is mostly unavailable.

However, the shallow wells are built in areas where they get contaminated by burst sewer pipes. Vendors have also been identified as major spreaders of the disease.

The Deputy Minister of Health and Childcare, Sleiman Kwidini, has urged residents to boil or use purification tablets to treat the water from unprotected sources before using it.

The government has since stepped in to contain the outbreak by establishing a treatment centre at Tsungubvi Clinic. Sofar 93 individuals have been treated, with 8 patients receiving treatment.
