Reigning premier league champions Simba Bhora will square off with Zvishavane Giants, FC Platinum for this year’s Uhuru Cup match that will be held in Gokwe North on Independence day.

The Uhuru Cup is traditionally played for by Dynamos FC and Highlander FC, a development that has seen the title exchanging hands between the two football clubs.

This year, the Cup will go to a different team, as the current holders (Dynamos FC) will not get the opportunity to defend its title.

The match will be held at Nembudziya Growth Point open ground, where the country’s 45th Independence anniversary celebrations will be held.

Speaking to journalists at a post cabinet press briefing, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere said the Uhuru Cup Match will be the main entertainment act at the Independence celebrations.

“Simba Bhora and FC Platinum football clubs will entertain the crowds during the main Independence Day anniversary celebrations,” said Muswere.

The Minister revealed that preparations to host this year’s celebrations are at an advanced stage.

“Preparatory works are all at an advanced stage and progressing well, with the construction of legacy projects in full swing at the Main Arena at Gokwe North Open Grounds, the Gala site at Nembudziya Government High School, and the venue of the Children’s Party at Nyamuroro High School,” said Muswere.
