Two inmates escaped Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo on Wednesday last week during a supervised work assignment outside the prison facility in a way that resembles a Hollywood movie.
Describing the incident to a local media stable, ZPCS National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi said the inmates seized a vehicle that had been used by the prison officers to transport them for the work assignment to escape.
“They took advantage of the situation to gain access to a ZPCS vehicle, which they used to flee.”
According to Khanyezi, the inmates abandoned the vehicle and fled by foot after having an accident a few kilometres away from the worksite
The two are identified as Feliciano Simango, also known as Fidelis Jorum Mauyangwe and Never Matoma. ZPCS has since launched a manhunt to apprehend them.
