A 47-year old police officer has been slapped with a 21 year jail term by the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court for raping his own daughter.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the police officer, who was stationed at Support Unit was found guilty of repeatedly abusing his Grade 7 daughter at their home.

The abuse began in August 2024 when the officer returned home one night drunk and forced himself on his daughter.

“The officer threatened his daughter not to report the matter. The abuse continued into the new year with another incident in January 2025 where he touched her and expressed further desires to have sex with her.

“This time, the assault was interrupted by the arrival of the girl’s stepmother but then the officer intimidated his daughter into silence,” reads the statement.

NPAZ commended the girl’s bravery that led her to share the information to her friends and a teacher who helped her to report the abuse.

“A medical report confirmed what happened, leading to the arrest and conviction of her father.

The officer received a harsh penalty because he committed the crime as who works for law the enforcement authority.
