A dramatic shootout between the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers and six armed robbery suspects ended in the deaths of all six suspects in Bulawayo.
The incident occurred on March 18, 2025, between 2 am and 4 am, along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls tollgate. According to police reports, the suspects had spent the day monitoring and drinking beer at Young Money General’s Dealer Shop in Insuza before launching their attack.
The suspects, armed with pistols, knives, and axes, tied up two complainants with electric cables and covered their faces with blankets. They demanded gold and cash, then ransacked the shop, stealing an unknown amount of cash, groceries, and various electronics.
The suspects fled in a silver Honda Fit, registration number AEY 4843, but were spotted by police along Victoria Falls Road. When detectives ordered them to stop, the suspects opened fire, leading to a shootout. The suspects crashed into the tollgate boom barrier and were arrested, but all six died shortly after arrival at United Bulawayo Hospital.
Police recovered two pistols with four live rounds, two gas-operated pistols, two knives, an axe, and some of the stolen property.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reiterated its commitment to combating armed robbery syndicates, stating that any form of confrontation by criminals will be met with appropriate measures.
