The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has fined Kwekwe United US$3,000 and awarded Herentals a 3-0 victory after the team failed to play their scheduled match against Herentals in April.
According to PSL media officer Kudzai Bare, the disciplinary committee found Kwekwe United guilty of failing to fulfill their league match.
“The league awarded Herentals a 3-0 victory,” Bare said in a statement released on Monday.
Kwekwe United has been slapped with a US$3,500 fine, with US$500 suspended on condition the club avoids a repeat offense this season. The effective US$3,000 fine must be paid by May 23, along with hearing costs.
This ruling deepens the woes for Kwekwe United, a club already battling financial and internal turmoil in their maiden top-flight campaign.
The team has been plagued by unpaid salaries, coaching upheaval, and ongoing disputes between owner Phil Makekera and former head coach Saul Chaminuka.
Kwekwe United remains bottom of the PSL log with just seven points from eleven matches, and faces questions about whether they can even finish the season.
The team’s future in the league hangs in the balance as they struggle to overcome their internal and financial challenges.
