The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested two public service vehicle drivers on charges of attempted murder following separate incidents where they allegedly accelerated their kombis towards police officers manning a roadblock.
The arrests of Wilson Yasin, 28, and Courage Tinashe Mupoperi, 35, were confirmed by ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
According to Commissioner Nyathi, the incidents occurred on September 4, 2025.
“On September 4, 2025, police in Harare arrested two public service drivers, Wilson Yasin (28) and Courage Tinashe Mupoperi (35), for attempted murder,” Nyathi stated in a press release.
The two drivers, operating a Toyota Hiace with registration number AEU 0134 and a Nissan Caravan with registration number AHA 0543, were stopped at a police checkpoint along Chiremba Road near Chans in Epworth.
Instead of complying with the officers’ directive to stop, they allegedly sped up, endangering the lives of the law enforcement officers who were conducting their lawful duties.
The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on reckless behavior on the nation’s roads.
The two suspects are expected to appear in court to face the charges.
