A recent tragic incident in Mberengwa resulted in the death of a four-month-old infant who fell from her mother’s back during a physical altercation between the parents.

The couple has since been arrested after attempting to secretly bury the child without reporting the death to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Mitchelle Zhou, a female baby aged four months.

The tragedy unfolded at approximately 7:00 PM on October 23, 2025, at Domboshava in Mberengwa.

The infant’s parents, Mthandazo Zhou (23) and Tawananyasha Zhou (18), both residents of Domboshava, reportedly had a misunderstanding that escalated into a physical fight.

According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the baby slipped from the mother’s back during the fight, fell to the ground, and died on the spot.

The couple’s attempt to conceal the death led to their arrest.

Police confirmed that at the time of their apprehension, the parents were allegedly processing a secret burial of the body in Khumalo village under Chief Negove, Gomonhenga in Mberengwa, without having made a police report.
