The government has acquired the iconic Monomotapa Hotel in Harare for use by Members of Parliament (MPs) during sittings, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion minister Mthuli Ncube revealed at the pre-budget seminar in Bulawayo.

The move is aimed at reducing hotel booking expenses and ensuring significant savings on public funds whenever Parliament is in session.

According to Ncube, the acquisition of the hotel will enable MPs to have a dedicated facility for their use, thereby cutting down on costs associated with booking other hotels.

“I’m going to announce today that we have bought you a hotel, the Monomotapa Hotel. This is for use by MPs,” Ncube said.

The hotel, a landmark Harare property, was acquired from local hospitality group African Sun, which had put it on the market in July this year as part of its efforts to unlock shareholder value.

The property was valued at US$18 million, but Ncube did not disclose the financial details of the government’s purchase.

The minister emphasized that the hotel would be open to the public when Parliament is not in session, ensuring that it does not go to waste.

“The hotel would be open to the public when Parliament is not in session,” Ncube said, adding that the move was designed to ensure significant savings on public funds.

The acquisition of the Monomotapa Hotel is seen as a strategic move by the government to optimize its resources and reduce costs.

The hotel’s location in the heart of Harare makes it an ideal venue for parliamentary sittings, and its acquisition is likely to enhance the efficiency of the legislative process.

The government’s decision to acquire the hotel is also expected to have a positive impact on the local economy.

The hotel’s operations will continue to support local businesses and create jobs, even as it serves as a parliamentary facility.

As the government continues to implement measures aimed at promoting economic growth and development, the acquisition of the Monomotapa Hotel is seen as a step in the right direction.

The hotel’s future looks bright, with the government committed to ensuring its continued success.
