The refurbishment of Zimbabwe’s flagship National Sports Stadium has reached a significant milestone, with 65% of the infrastructure upgrades now complete.

According to Hon. Farai Jere, MP for Murehwa West and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, the project is on track to restore the stadium to international standards.

“The infrastructure refurbishment at the National Sports Stadium has reached 65 percent completion, marking significant progress toward restoring Zimbabwe’s flagship sporting facility to international standards,” said Hon. Jere, highlighting the notable progress made so far.

The stadium, which is a key venue for high-profile matches and events, has seen significant upgrades, including the full installation of bucket seats and the completion of four gates fitted with electronic turnstiles.

A hybrid turf has also been successfully planted, while the water reticulation system is now 70% complete.

Perimeter fencing stands at 60% completion.

Hon. Jere emphasized that the ongoing works demonstrate the government’s commitment to modernizing sporting infrastructure and meeting the requirements of international governing bodies such as CAF and FIFA.

“The project is expected to enable the country to once again host high-profile international matches and major events,” he said.

The refurbishment project is a key initiative aimed at upgrading Zimbabwe’s sporting infrastructure to international standards.
