Zimbabwean opposition figure Job Sikhala has been ordered to remain in South African police custody following the postponement of his criminal case to Wednesday 12 November, 2025, for a formal bail hearing.
Sikhala, a former legislator for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of possession of explosives.
The prominent politician was arrested in Pretoria last week after police allegedly discovered explosives in his vehicle.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana confirmed the State’s position regarding the ongoing investigation.
“Investigations in this matter are ongoing, but you must understand that the State does not enroll any matter unless there is prima facie evidence against the accused, as he was found in possession of the explosives.”
Mahanjana added that the State is currently undecided on whether it will formally oppose bail when the matter returns to court on Wednesday.
Sikhala’s continued detention in South Africa adds another chapter to the legal battles of the often-arrested Zimbabwean politician.
