The murder cases against Guruve serial killer Anymore Zvitsva, have rised from 19 to 25 after the court made additional cases against him during his latest appearance.
The 33-year-old is at the center of one of the most grisly homicide investigations in Zimbabwe’s recent history.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the expanded charges on Thursday, revealing that intensive investigations in Mashonaland Central Province have linked Zvitsva to more victims than previously recorded.
“Police can conclusively confirm that he is now facing 25 counts of murder,” Commissioner Nyathi stated.
“In addition to these, he faces three counts of attempted murder, two cases of rape, and one combined charge of rape and attempted murder.”
Beyond the rising number of victims, authorities are now investigating a more sinister dimension to the case, the possibility of a body-parts trade.
Detectives are currently following leads suggesting that Zvitsva did not act alone and may have been motivated by financial gain through ritualistic killings.
“We are conducting investigations into allegations that there were accomplices assisting Zvitsva,” Nyathi said.
“Furthermore, we are verifying reports that certain individuals may have purchased body parts from the suspect.”
The revelation has sent fresh shockwaves through the Guruve community, which had already spent months in a state of high anxiety as the death toll linked to the suspect continued to rise.
Zvitsva’s killing spree reportedly spans over a year, with the most recent surge in violence occurring late in 2025.
In one December incident, the murder of a mother and her daughter sparked a massive manhunt that eventually led to Zvitsva’s capture in early January 2026.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to several killings.
However, as forensic teams and investigators combed through missing person reports and recovered remains in the region, the charge sheet has grown from 19 counts to the current 25.
Zvitsva appeared briefly in court this week, where five additional murder charges were formally added to his docket.
Due to the gravity of the crimes and the ongoing nature of the investigation, he has been further remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on February 3, 2026.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding the alleged buyers of body parts or potential accomplices to come forward, promising that no stone will be left unturned in dismantling what appears to be a deadly criminal network.
