President Emmerson Mnangagwa has opened a new restaurant at the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility in Harare and praised the company’s innovative approach to waste management.

Speaking during a restaurant lunch visit at the site in Pomona on Thursday, the President was delighted to see it evolving from a dumpsite to a modern economic hub.

“The efforts you are making to transform this site through ground breaking innovations and economic activities are applauded,” President Mnangagwa said.

Reflecting on the site’s journey, the President humorously noted the stark contrast between the area’s past and present, stating that it has become a pleasant destination for leisure.

He remarked that the transformation now allows people to visit and enjoy casual meals, a far cry from its former state.

He expressed his admiration for the new restaurant facility, describing it as a fine establishment that showcases tangible progress.

The President extended his gratitude to the management and partners of Geo Pomona for the invitation to celebrate what he termed another aspect of the company’s unfolding success story.

He urged other local authorities to learn from the model being implemented at Pomona to ensure broader inclusivity in development initiatives across the country.

Coupled with the environmentally sustainable innovations on display, the President expressed confidence that the new restaurant would serve as a symbol of progress and add further value to Zimbabwe’s well-performing tourism and hospitality industry.

“The strides made so far, by Geo-Pomona Company towards employment creation are worthy of commendation, rising from six employees, in 2022, to the current, 1 200 employees,” He said.

President Mnangagwa urged the company to continue its culture of employing people from the surrounding communities.
