Zanu PF has suspended its internal provincial elections to focus on preparations to host its Annual National People’s Conference which will be held in October.

The development comes amid reports that the elections were causing serious infighting and divisions in the ruling partys as members jostled for positions.

Addressing journalists at a Politiburo Press Briefing, the party’s acting spokesperson Mike Bimha said the suspension of provincial elections was made to allow party structures to focus on preparations for the party’s congress which will be held from 25 to 31 October.

“The Politiburo has resolved to suspend provincial elections until further notice. There was a report from the National Chairman on the preparedness of the party with regards to the national congress. While there is quite a lot of progress that has been made, there are areas that need fine tuning, areas where we need to get more information and what it means is that we must all concentrate on the preparations of the conference.

“The moment we start campaigning, the moment we start running around to gunner support it destruct us from focusing on the preparations,” said Bimha.

He said the elections may be held sometime this year after the congress.
