Government, through the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services has launched 2 ambitious digital inclusion initiatives to drive the country towards a fully digitalized economy where service delivery will be conducted through the digital space.
The two initiatives dubbed, Digitalize Zimbabwe, and Roving ICT Expo were launched recently in Beitbridge by Minister Tatenda Mavetera. In her address, she said her Ministry came up with the Digitalize Zimbabwe expo to provide a dynamic platform to show-case the latest advancements in information and communication technologies.
“It will bring together industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and the public to explore the vast potential of digital solutions in driving economic growth, enhancing public service delivery, and improving the quality of life for all Zimbabweans,” minister Mavetera said.
On the Roving ICT Expo, the Minister said the initiative will serve as a catalyst for digital inclusion as it will provide opportunities for marginalised citizens to engage with cutting-edge technologies, acquire new digital skills, and harness the transformative power of ICTs.
“The Digitalize Zimbabwe and Roving ICT Expo are more than just events; they represent the government’s unwavering resolve to create a future where technology empowers every citizen, from bustling border towns to remote villages.
“Together, let us embrace this digital revolution and write a new chapter in the history of our beloved Zimbabwe, where innovation, connectivity, and digital literacy pave the way for a prosperous and inclusive tomorrow,” she said.
The initiatives come at a time when the country has less than 35% of its citizens connected to the Internet, which is the gateway to the digital world.
They are likely to increase connectivity through innovation and infrastructure development .
