Ngezi Platinum Stars have taken decisive action against head coach Takesure Chiragwi, suspending him for three matches after he was caught on live television slapping midfielder McDonald Makuwe during a heated exchange on the touchline.
The incident occurred during Ngezi’s 1-1 draw with Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium on October 4, 2025.
According to reports, Chiragwi’s suspension effectively ends his 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, with the coach set to miss crucial matches against top contenders Simba Bhora and MWOS.
“We are unable to comment on this matter at this stage as it is pending a PSL disciplinary hearing,” said club communications officer Roberta Katunga.
“We respect the league’s processes and will await the outcome before making any further statements,” he added.
In Chiragwi’s absence, assistant coach Kumbirayi Mutiwekuziva will take charge of the team.
Ngezi Platinum Stars are currently fourth on the log, eight points behind leaders Scottland, with only four games left to play.
The team’s focus remains on maintaining cohesion and performance on the field, despite the off-field drama.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has also summoned Chiragwi and Ngezi Platinum Stars to appear before the disciplinary committee on October 28.
Chiragwi faces charges of violent and disorderly conduct, while the club is accused of disrupting the normal proceedings of the match and improper conduct by members of the technical team and players.
The outcome of the hearing will determine whether additional sanctions will be imposed beyond the club’s internal suspension.
Ngezi Platinum Stars’ upcoming fixtures are crucial in determining their chances of winning the championship.
A win against Simba Bhora and MWOS could keep them in contention, but it will depend on other results going in their favor.
With Scottland and MWOS set to face off this weekend, the championship race is heating up, and Ngezi Platinum Stars will be eager to make a strong comeback.
