A 30-year-old Kwekwe man has been remanded in custody after allegedly soaking his wife with sulphuric acid following a domestic misunderstanding.

Shakemore Manyepa has appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court after his arrest following the incident, which reportedly took place on November 26, 2025.

Prosecutors informed the court that the confrontation began after Manyepa allegedly arrived home intoxicated and started burning groceries he had purchased, prompting an argument with his wife.

The situation is then alleged to have escalated violently when Manyepa poured a corrosive substance, believed to be sulphuric acid, onto the victim’s face.

Details on the current condition of the victim have not yet been officially released by authorities.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), has condemned the behaviour, urging the public to resist GBV, especially as the world observes the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

“The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe strongly urges communities to refrain from gender-based violence. We advocate for peaceful and legal resolution of conflicts,” the NPA statement read.
