DYNAMOS HELD BY AGAMA IN FRUSTRATING WADZANAI STADIUM DRAW

Dynamos’ promising away run came to an abrupt halt on Sunday as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Premiership newcomers Agama at Wadzanai Stadium.

The result, which marks Dynamos’ second stalemate of the campaign, saw the Harare giants drop points on the road for the first time after three away victories.

The visitors entered the contest riding a wave of momentum following impressive wins in Bulawayo against Bulawayo Chiefs and Telone.

However, that momentum was stifled early when Grey Kufandada rose unmarked at the far post to head home from a corner kick in the 23rd minute, giving the home side a shock lead.

The goal came moments after a stunning save from Dynamos goalkeeper Iddrissou Nfor, but the resultant set piece exposed defensive frailties that left the Glamour Boys chasing the game for much of the afternoon.

“We were not at our best in the first half. We gave away a soft goal from a set piece and then rushed things in attack,” a source close to the Dynamos camp said, reflecting on the disjointed display that saw players fail to convert clear-cut opportunities before the break.

The frustration nearly deepened after the interval.

Agama, content to protect their lead, resorted to defensive tactics that Dynamos struggled to unlock.

Coach Genesis Mangombe introduced three substitutes at halftime in a bid to inject energy, with Tendaishe Magwaza, Frank Agyemang, and Witness Shave coming on.

The changes nearly paid off immediately, as Shave saw an effort cleared off the line.

Agama remained dangerous on the counterattack, and substitute goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni was forced into a fine save to deny Richard Kumi, while the post later spared Dynamos from what would have been a decisive second goal for the hosts.

Speaking on the team’s response after the break, a Dynamos official emphasized the squad’s persistence.

“We knew we had to stay patient. The boys kept pushing, and eventually, we got the decision we needed,” the official said, referencing the pivotal moment that arrived with nine minutes remaining.

Dynamos’ equalizer came from the penalty spot after a free kick from Collin Mujuru was clearly handled inside the box.

Jairos Kasondo stepped up and calmly slotted home his third goal of the season, leveling the score at 1-1.

“Jairos is composed in those moments. We needed that goal to salvage something from a difficult fixture,” the official added, noting that the team pushed aggressively in seven minutes of added time but could not find a winner.

With the draw, Dynamos now sit on eight points from four matches, a missed opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Caps United, who maintain a perfect record.

For Agama, the result represents their first point of the season after four matches, a hard-earned reward for their resilience against one of the league’s traditional powerhouses.

Kasondo’s penalty took his personal tally to three goals in four games, a return that continues to position him at the top of the Premier Soccer League’s scoring charts.
