MDC T leader Thokozani Khupe took charge of the Morgan Tsvangirai House, the opposition party’s headquarters yesterday in the evening with little resistance from the rival faction led by Nelson Chamisa which was occupying the building.
Sources who spoke to this publication said Khupe took over the building with the assistance of security forces who were heavily present at the party’s headquarters since Monday, ordering the removal of cars belonging to the Chamisa led faction.
But a letter written by MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora, stated that the takeover went through after Nelson Chamisa cooperated to allow a peaceful hand over of control of the Morgan Tsvangirai House.
“The party wishes to advise that the following communication sent by the acting president Dr. T. Khupe to Advocate N. Chamisa, the latter has today through party officials allowed for a peaceful handover takeover of control of the Morgan Tsvangirai House,”.
“We are grateful for the display of cooperation. Henceforth, all meetings will be held at Morgan Tsvangirai House,” reads the letter.
The move follows the Supreme Court ruling which declared Thokozani Khupe the legitimate leader of MDC T until the party holds an extra ordinary congress to elect a new leader within three months
