The departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union could boost Zimbabwe’s prospects of engaging on a political dialogue with the former to reach a mutual understanding on various issues between the two countries, Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo has revealed.
Minister Moyo made these remarks after holding a virtual meeting with British Minister for Africa Mr James Duddridge yesterday where it was proposed that since Britain was exiting the European Union where it was part and parcel of the political dialogue process between Europe and Zimbabwe, there should be a United Kingdom and Zimbabwe political dialogue to help to iron out issues which may be misunderstood on both the Zimbabwe and United Kingdom front.
“We discussed issues to take our relations to the next level and particularly in recognition of the fact that we have signed a post-Brexit agreement.”
“I think the discussion was very fruitful. It was very positive and it touched on a number of issues and it also clarified quite a number of aspects which are as a result of misconceptions which are being propagated by certain political formations in this country” said Minister Moyo in a quote from the Herald.
The minister also revealed that the United Kingdom committed itself to work with Zimbabwe so that the countries can chart a new way forward.
The proposed dialogue will improve relations between the two countries which were sour for the past 8 years due to various political differences and misconceptions mainly fueled by the previous administration.
