Zimbabwe’s giant telecoms company Econet Wireless has appointed Elizabeth Tanya Masiyiwa, daughter of its founder Strive Masiyiwa into the board of directors with effect from 1 April 2022.

The development comes after Strive Masiyiwa recused himself from the board on 1 February this year in what observers say was a move to pave way for his daughter to take over his position.

Ms Masiyiwa is a business leader, social entrepreneur and philanthropist in her own right who holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Banking and International Finance from Bayes Business School, City University London and a Masters of Social Entrepreneurship from Hult International Business School. She is currently studying for an Executive MBA from Cambridge University.

Ms Masiyiwa, who holds a number of leadership positions in both local and international organisations, serves on a number of boards, including the Harvard University Leadership Council for the Centre of African Studies and Higherlife Foundation.

Her C.V makes her competent and capable to take over the reigns of the company from her father. The appointment shows the company’s confidence in giving the girl child the room to shine in highest places and positions
