The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested two local ZANU-PF officials in Hopley, Harare, for allegedly defrauding a private company, Sunshine Developments (Pvt) Ltd, of an estimated US$1.5 million by illegally selling subdivided residential stands to over 200 unsuspecting home seekers.
According to ZACC, the officials, Phinias Muchichwa (41), ZANU-PF Chairman for the Godfrey Chidyausiku District in Hopley, and Anderson Frendson (37), the party’s Branch Chief Security officer for the Josiah Magama Branch in the same area are accused of masterminding a fraudulent scheme involving Stand 34, Tariro Township, which measures 9.3473 hectares and is legally owned by Sunshine Developments.
“The accused persons, Muchichwa and Frendson, unlawfully subdivided the land belonging to Sunshine Developments without any legal authority or right,” the ZACC statement detailed.
” They then proceeded to sell the illegal stands to more than 200 party members and other home seekers, charging a fee of US$300.00 per stand.”
ZACC has also confirmed that the fraudulent activities resulted in a massive financial prejudice.
“The total value of the prejudice suffered by Sunshine Developments is estimated to be US$1.5 million,” the statement read, adding that none of the money has been recovered so far.
Muchichwa and Frendson are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow to face charges of fraud.
