Jah Prayzah has been crowned the king of Zimbabwean airwaves, clinching the number one spot in the fiercely contested Radio Zimbabwe Glow Petroleum 2025 Top 50 chart with his hit “Ruzhowa.”

The annual listener-voted poll, which concluded this week, revealed a monumental turnout, with the winning track amassing a staggering 208,436 votes, underscoring the artist’s enduring popularity.

The final results, released by the national broadcaster, showed a dramatic race for the top.

In a surprising upset, Paddington Chiwashira’s “Manhanga Matete” secured third place with an impressive 196,482 votes, while the chart’s runner-up, Donator Calvins’ “Door Ratovharwa,” came a close second with 202,194 votes.

The narrow margins highlight the intense competition that characterised this year’s poll, which saw total votes surge into the millions.

Industry analysts point to the overwhelming public participation as a sign of the chart’s revitalised cultural significance.

A station representative, speaking on the condition of anonymity, emphasised the poll’s credibility, stating, “The sheer volume of votes, meticulously verified through our digital and SMS platforms, reflects the genuine voice of the people. This isn’t just a chart; it’s a national conversation about our music.”

The data supports this, with even the song placed at number 50, “Nzira” by Mai Mutinhimira, receiving a substantial 7,784 votes.

The 2025 list also showcased a remarkable diversity of genres, from the conscious dancehall of Winky D’s “Drink Up” at number 8 to the timeless gospel of Minister Michael Mahendere’s “Messiah” at number 9.

Furthermore, the strong showing of newer acts like Nutty O at number 6 and Tamy Moyo at number 18 signals a vibrant and evolving industry.

Music critic Tafadzwa Muchena analysed the trend, noting, “The Top 50 has evolved into a fascinating snapshot of our sonic landscape. It’s where veteran giants like Jah Prayzah and Leonard Zhakata coexist with digital-age disruptors, proving that Zimbabwean music is both rooted and relentlessly innovative.”

The distribution of votes indicates a fragmented yet passionate audience, with clear pockets of support for gospel, Zimdancehall, traditional sungura, and contemporary Afro-fusion.

As the winners celebrate their placement, the 2025 Radio Zimbabwe Glow Petroleum Top 50 stands as a testament to the power of listener-driven accolades in shaping the nation’s musical narrative and setting the stage for the hits of 2026.
