The self-proclaimed Interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change, Sengezo Tshabangu has written to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to notify them that he will be the one responsible for approving candidates from the opposition party to contest in the upcoming By Elections.
In a statement, Tshabangu appointed himself and two other colleagues, Mbuso Siso and Jabulani Ncube as the only bona-fide signatories of nomination paper for approved candidates ahead of the elections slated for 9 December 2023.
Pursuant to Statutory Instrument 188 of 2023 proclaiming by-elections to be held on 9 December 2023, and fixing 7 November 2023 as the date on which the Nomination Court shall sit, I write in terms of section 46(1)(c) and (2) of the Electoral Act (chapter2:13), to submit the designated officials of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who are authorised to countersign the nomination papers of our party’s approved candidates, and these are: Sengezo Tshabangu, Mbuso Siso and Jabulani Ncube.
“In this regard, may i also emphasize that no other person or individual is authorised to countersign the nomination papers of any of our party’s approved candidates for the said by-election,” reads the statement.
The development comes after CCC Deputy Spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba revealed that the party has reported Tshabangu to the police, and laid criminal charges against him at the courts. Siziba said Tshabangu is an imposter who is misrepresenting himself as the party’s Secretary General and abusing its intellectual property.
But the rescue letter by Tshabangu shows that he is not stopping.
