A Chinese Mining company, San He Mining has been sentenced to pay a fine of US$700 by a Bindura Magistrate for using Starlink equipment at its premises in Guruve against the law.

In a statement,  the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the company was convicted for contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act by wilfully possessing and operating a radio station without the necessary license or authorization from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).

The NPA said the incident came to light on December 5th, 2023, when the police received a report from POTRAZ indicating that San He Mining was using Star-link equipment for its operations.

“On the 5th of December, the police received a report from POTRAZ to the effect that the company was using Star-link equipment.

“The police proceeded to the mine where they recovered the Star -link router and antenna,” reads the statement.

This  comes after POTRAZ has warned Zimbabweans against using Starlink service before the company is registered to operate in the country.
