The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has been ordered to pay a fine of USD$200 following the death of a man who was electrocuted by exposed wires at a farm paddock.

Havatendi Kangetsambo (52) died due to electrocution caused by exposed wire cables at a farm paddock.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), Kangetsambo was struck around 3:00pm last year when he got electrocuted, succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot.

“The charges emanated from an incident which happened on the 3rd of March 2022 at around 1500 hours wherein the now deceased Havatendi Kangetsambo (52) was electrocuted by exposed wire cables at a farm paddock. He succumbed to injuries on the spot.” The NPA said in a statement.

Netizens have however voiced their frustration, arguing that a mere $200 is insufficient and unjust for the value of a human life.

NPA has revealed that it will appeal the sentence.
