A 26 year old woman is facing a murder charge after she stabbed and killed her aunt with a knife over a dispute on outstanding electricity bills.

Kudzai Thandezile of Vengere suburb in Rusape yesterday appeared before Rusape Magistrate’s Court facing charges of murder in the death of her husband’s sister.

It is the court’s case that on  8 May 2024,  Thandezile and the victim,  Dorothy Matongo (35) were engaged in a dispute over an outstanding electricity bill when the argument turned violent.

Prosecutors allege that Thandezile went to her room, grabbed a kitchen knife, and stabbed Matongo once in the upper left chest. Matongo reportedly walked a short distance before collapsing due to profuse bleeding.

The deceased’s daughter fled to seek help, at which point Thandezile attacked Matongo for the second time, stabbing her in the back of the left shoulder.

Matongo was rushed to Mutare General Hospital but died en route. A police report was filed, leading to Thandezile’s arrest.

Thandezile has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on 24 May.
