17 retirees who worked at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in different departments received a special farewell ceremony in their honour last Friday, which saw each of them receiving food hampers, gifts, and presents as tokens of appreciation.

The ceremony was held at the hospital, where hospital staff, colleagues, and relatives were present as attendees. Sponsors from the corporate world like Impala Car Hire, Schweppes, and Doves Holdings made the event possible by providing gifts and treats.

Speaking at the ceremony, the hospital’s acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nortburg Chifamba, said the legacy left by the retirees will continue to inspire future generations.

“I would like to thank you for the dedication, commitment, and resilience you showed during your years of service.

“Your commitment to our community’s well-being is an inspiration. The hospital’s success is built on your foundation, and your legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” she said.

Henry Jaji, one of the retirees who worked at thehospitall for 47 years shared his journey with this publication.

“I joined this hospital on 1 June 1977. I have worked here all my life until today when I decided to retire. I started as an ambulance driver and rose through the ranks until I became a transport officer.

“What kept me here for a long time without being dismissed was my dedication, honesty, and hard work as i fulfilled my duties. I encourage young employees to value their work and conduct themselves with honesty and integrity for them to keep their jobs,” he said.

Impala Car Rental made the retirees walk away with a smile on their faces as they gave each one of them a gift of their choice. Some walked away with solar panels, ploughs, and kitchen uutensils.

The company’s Head of Marketing, Kudzanai Musimbe, said all the gifts were brought to honour the hard work and dedication of the retirees.

“We came here to honour our fathers and mothers who have served this hospital faithfully. We hope that by doing this, we are showing the community that we are part of it and that Impala Car Rental values our elders. We promise to keep on supporting this initiative and be there for our local communities,” said Musimbe.
