Breaking News: President Mnangagwa fires Chasi, Appoints new Minister of Agriculture

President Emmerson Mnangangwa has fired Advocate Fortune Chasi from his position as the Minister of Energy and Power Development with immediate effect.

In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said Chasi has been relieved from his ministerial post and replaced by Muzarabani North Legislator Soda Zhemu due to his conduct of Government business which was incompatible to the President’s expectations.

“His Excellency the President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Hon. Soda Zhemu, Member of Parliament for Muzarabani North, as Minister of Energy and Power Development in place of the current Minister Hon Advocate Fortune Chasi, ”

“The latter has been relieved of his Ministerial post in terms of Section 108 (1a) of the Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment (No. 20) Act of 2013,as his conduct of Government business had become incompatible with the President’s expectations,” reads the statement.

President Mnangagwa also appointed Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuku, as Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, and Rural Resettlement with immediate effect. His appointment follows the death of Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Perrance Shiri.

Dr Sibanda said Dr Masuku holds a Batchelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Agriculture majoring in Crop Science from the University of Zimbabwe majoring in Crop Science from the University of Zimbabwe which he obtained in 1988, and a Doctor of Philosophy which he obtained from the same institution in 1993.
