A coup attempt was thwarted in Burkina Faso on Tuesday, according to the military authorities of the nation.

It claimed that officers and others had plotted to create turmoil and derail the nation.

Just over a year has passed since Capt. Ibrahim Traoré, the interim president, usurped authority.

In 2022, the nation experienced its second coup as it battled an Islamist insurrection.

The officials stated in a statement read aloud on television that some arrests had been made but did not provide any further details.

Recent accounts of frustration in the military have been reported.

Hundreds of people marched in favor of the junta in the streets of the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou, on Tuesday as a result of speculations of an impending mutiny.

The authorities suspended the French-language news publication Jeune Afrique on the same day, claiming that it had published articles that were critical of the armed forces.
