Tanzania has opened the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) office in Zimbabwe to simplify the importation of cars and other goods between the two countries.

The opening of the new office is also set to reduce the distance and time needed to access goods.

Professor Makame Mbarawa, the manager of TPA Zimbabwe said this development is important as it is a great source of government revenue.

“Business between the two countries, Tanzania and Zimbabwe is fast growing, where the volume of transit cars from Japan and European countries to Zimbabwe through the Dar es Salaam Port has been rising quiet impressively.

” During the 2020/2021 financial year, the total units of cars were 46 519. This number will be more impressive for the 2023/2024 financial year,” he said .

He also said the opening of this office will strengthen the commitment by the Tanzanian government to motivate businesses to keep using  the TPA services.

“Tanzania, has long been a key trading partner for Zimbabwe. However, the process of importing goods from Tanzania to Zimbabwe has been challenging, with lengthy travel and complex logistics involved,” said Mbarawa
