Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has banned Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta from playing for the national team for four months as a punitive measure for drug use.

The two players were banned after they appeared for disciplinary hearing last Wednesday. According to reports, the players admitted to breaching the ZC Employment Code of Conduct which deters players from using drugs. They were caught last year in December after undergoing an in-house doping test.

The ban will see ZC withholding 50% of the salaries of Madhevere and Mavuta for three months starting from January 2024.
