The International Energy Forum (IEF) has announced that Zimbabwe has become a full member of the organization, bringing the total number of member countries to 73.

Founded 33 years ago, the IEF serves as the world’s largest organization of energy ministers and plays a crucial role in promoting energy security through dialogue between producers and consumers.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, Prof. Mthuli Ncube said Zimbabwe is honoured to be part of the Forum.

“Zimbabwe is pleased to join the International Energy Forum to promote dialogue with fellow members on pressing energy issues.”

He  also emphasized the value of closer collaboration with key actors in the global energy market, particularly in addressing energy poverty, enhancing energy security, and tackling challenges arising from price inflation, climate change, and geopolitical uncertainties.

The IEF today boasts of more members than both organizations combined, including countries such as Argentina, China, India, and South Africa.

Welcoming Zimbabwe as a full member, IEF Secretary-General Joseph McMonigle said the Forum is pleased to welcome the country  to join them.

“The IEF is pleased to welcome Zimbabwe as a full member, bringing our community of African members to 23 countries.”

McMonigle also expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Zimbabwe on the energy transition, including exploring ways to expand the electricity grid and integrate new baseload and renewable energy sources.

The International Energy Forum serves as a vital platform for global energy dialogue, promoting energy security, market stability, transparency, and the energy transition.

With its expanded membership, accounting for 90% of the world energy market, the IEF continues to strengthen its role in shaping the future of the global energy landscape.
