President Emmerson Mnangagwa has handed over a fleet of 102 brand-new vehicles to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) at the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Msasa Logistics Garrison Depot.
This significant development is part of a larger initiative to enhance the operational capabilities of the ZDF, with the force set to receive over 700 vehicles in total.
Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri praised President Mnangagwa’s commitment to empowering the ZDF.
“It is encouraging to note that President Mnangagwa continues to champion initiatives that empower the Zimbabwe Defence Forces,” she stated, highlighting the importance of equipping the military with modern resources.
The handover ceremony underscores the government’s dedication to improving the welfare and operational effectiveness of the ZDF.
According to government spokesperson Nick Mangwana, this initiative “bridges a significant gap in the conditions of service for senior army officers, ensuring they receive their entitled benefits, including vehicles, ultimately enhancing their welfare and operational effectiveness within the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.”
The vehicle handover is part of a broader effort to modernize the ZDF and enhance its readiness to respond to national security needs.
President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of equipping the uniformed forces with state-of-the-art tools to fulfill their duties effectively.
In December 2024, the President handed over 54 vehicles and 202 houses to the ZDF, further demonstrating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the defence forces.
The ZDF has been undergoing modernization efforts, including the procurement of new vehicles and equipment.
The force has also been engaging in training exchange programs with countries in the SADC region and beyond, enhancing its capabilities and cooperation with international partners.
The vehicle handover and housing projects are crucial steps in improving the conditions of service for ZDF members.
