The body of a local broadcaster was discovered under suspicious circumstances early this week, leading to the arrest of her partner.
Cordelia Masalethulini, 45, was found deceased along Domboshava Road in the Borrowdale area.
Police have arrested a 46-year-old Greystone Park man, Fungai Quintone Tawengwa, in connection with the alleged murder.
He is scheduled to make his first court appearance today.
The grim discovery was made by a security guard, who initially thought he had come upon the scene of a traffic accident.
Authorities confirmed that the guard promptly reported what he believed to be a hit-and-run incident.
However, upon examination, law enforcement officials quickly determined the situation involved criminal intent.
“The first responder, a security guard, reported a suspected hit-and-run,” a police source explained.
“But the scene assessment and condition of the body pointed decisively to foul play.”
Local residents have provided details suggesting a troubled relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Neighbors indicate the couple had been engaged in a loud argument just a day before Masalethulini’s death.
Their movements on the evening prior to the incident have drawn particular attention from the community.
According to one resident, the couple was seen together at a local shopping center before their journey took a turn.
“They were dining and drinking at Helensvale Shopping Centre on Sunday evening, which made them quite noticeable,” the resident recounted.
“Around 8pm, they decided to head to Domboshava but ended up at the home of one of Fungai’s friends in Borrowdale instead.”
The narrative provided by locals takes a darker turn at this location.
The resident continued, detailing a conflict that arose there: “They had a misunderstanding, and Cordelia refused to go home with Fungai. Eventually, they left together, heading toward home.”
Investigators have since focused on the friend’s Borrowdale residence, where forensic evidence has raised serious questions.
Police sources confirm that the investigation revealed blood stains in one of the rooms of the home where the couple had spent time, adding a critical layer to the timeline of events leading to the broadcaster’s death.
While National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi was unavailable for official comment, authoritative sources confirm the case has been formally logged at the Borrowdale Police Station.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together the final hours of Cordelia Masalethulini’s life and the circumstances that led to her body being found half-naked along the roadside.
