Former Zanu PF member and liberation war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, popularly known as “Cde Bombshell,” has died.
He was 83.According to the official statement released by the Geza family, he passed away earlier today at a specialized cardio hospital in South Africa.
Geza had become a prominent figure in Zimbabwean politics over the last year, transitioning from a member of the ruling party’s inner circle to one of its most public critics.
The family’s statement confirmed that the veteran died following a period of illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our hero, he left us this morning at a cardio hospital in South Africa,” the statement read.
The family also issued a warning against opportunists, urging the public to ignore any unauthorized GoFundMe campaigns or cash-in attempts related to his funeral arrangements.
Geza, who is a former member of the ZANU-PF Central Committee and a veteran of the Second Chimurenga, was expelled from the ruling party in March 2025.
His downfall followed a series of explosive social media broadcasts and press conferences in which he broke ranks with the administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Under his “Bombshell” moniker, Geza frequently reviewed military fatigues in videos recorded from undisclosed locations, where he accused the country’s leadership of corruption and famously labeled those enriched by illicit business as “zvigananda”.
He was a vocal opponent of efforts to extend President Mnangagwa’s term beyond the constitutional limit calling for mass protests.
He repeatedly urged Zimbabweans to take to the streets to demand a change in governance, accusing the party of betraying the ideals of the liberation struggle.
