Castle Lager, the title sponsor of the Premier Soccer League, has issued a strongly worded condemnation of rising fan violence and match abandonments following a chaotic weekend fixture at Chahwanda Stadium that left several people injured.

The brewing giant, which has backed Zimbabwean top-flight football for years, broke its silence, expressing deep concern over repeated disruptions that have marred the current season.

In the latest incident at Chahwanda Stadium, supporters invaded the pitch, clashed with rival fans, and forced match officials to abandon play.

Reports indicated multiple injuries, though the league has not yet released official figures.

Castle Lager described the scenes as falling “short of the spirit of the game and the values we collectively stand for.”

The statement added that football has long held “a unifying role in Zimbabwean society bringing together communities, families, and supporters in a shared celebration of passion, talent, and national pride.”

The sponsor said it “strongly condemns all forms of violence and unsportsmanlike behaviour, both on and off the field,” stressing that the safety of fans, players, match officials and all stakeholders “remain paramount.”

Acknowledging ongoing efforts by the Premier Soccer League, clubs, and relevant authorities, Castle Lager urged all parties “to act decisively and transparently to restore confidence in the game.”

The company revealed it is actively engaging with PSL leadership on the matter and awaiting outcomes of investigations into recent events.

“This is to help us understand the root causes behind these disruptions and support practical, long-term solutions that reinforce a safe and enjoyable football environment,” the sponsor said.

Despite the setbacks, Castle Lager reaffirmed its commitment to Zimbabwean football, stating that the game “must be played, and experienced, in a manner that reflects safety, respect, fairness and unity.”

The brewer wished the injured a speedy recovery and appealed directly to fans “to play their part in preserving the beauty of the game by supporting their teams responsibly and rejecting violence in all its forms.”

The PSL is expected to release disciplinary rulings anyday.
